\nOur purpose
\n<\/strong><\/span>The Royal Canadian Legion has approximately 600,000 members with 1,700 branches throughout Canada, the U.S.A. and Germany. In January 1947, some 30 WWI and WWII Veterans met in Bud Water\u2019s Barber Shop to pursue the formation of a Tamworth Branch of the Canadian Legion of the British Empire Service League. In February 1947, the first meeting to form a branch took place in the Town Hall. A provisional Executive was appointed consisting of: R.K. Stinson, President; E.G. Richmond, Sec\/Treas; and Executive Members; C.L. Wager, N.L.B. Coburn and Harold Davison. Thus Branch 458 of The Royal Canadian Legion was formed. Since then, the Legion has not wavered in its role of being a service provider to Veterans, community and youth.While Veterans are directly supported through our commitment to the Legion Villa, a residence located in Kingston, we offer an outreach program that assists Veterans in need. Branch 458 is very active in promoting the recognition of Remembrance Day and have reinstated recognition of D-Day in honor of our Veterans. We appreciate public participation in these events.<\/p>\n

Membership matters<\/strong>
\n<\/span>As a community service organization, our strength relies on our members. Members meet at 7:30 pm on the second Monday of the month for Legion updates and to provide input on key decisions. (Meetings are not held in July and August.)<\/p>\n

New members are always welcome! A connection to any aspect of military life is not required to join the Legion. And, as an added incentive to support the Legion, new memberships in 2026 are free.<\/p>\n

Involving youth<\/strong>
\n<\/span>For the youth in our community, we operate Remembrance Day poster and poetry competitions in partnership with nearby schools, support local minor sports programs, host the Santa Claus Parade and arrange for visits with Santa while he\u2019s in town.<\/p>\n

Community focus<\/strong>
\n<\/span>We support local efforts as well \u2026 including the Tamworth Canada Day Committee, the Tamworth Lions Food Drive, and Lennox & Addington County Hospital. We also support Stone Mills Community Breakfasts in partnership with a team of township residents and the Tamworth<\/p>\n

and District Lions. Breakfasts are held on the third Saturday of each month, with admission by donation and proceeds are provided to support a local need.<\/p>\n

New for 2026, we have started a monthly Stone Mills Music Series featuring talented local artists. Performances begin at 7 pm, wrapping up at 9 pm. Dates are noted on our Facebook page. It makes for a great family night out \u2013 or an option for gathering with a group of friends!<\/p>\n

Hall rental<\/strong>
\n<\/span>Our facilities are also available for non-member \/ public use. The Legion\u2019s Abbott Hall is available for wedding receptions, reunions, dances, awards ceremonies and other functions. The hall capacity is 120. The evening rental fee is $200.00 plus HST, and includes the bar services. (A deposit is required to hold your reservation.) Different fee arrangements may be available for regularly scheduled activities. Please contact us to discuss your specific event.<\/p>\n

On-going activities<\/strong>
\n<\/span>From September through May, regularly scheduled activities are available at the Legion for community members to enjoy. (Suggestions for other activities you\u2019d like to see are always welcome!) Our list includes:<\/p>\n

\u00b7 DanceFit \u2013 Wednesdays, starting at 10:00 am<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Darts \u2013 Thursdays, starting at 7:30 pm<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Bingo \u2013 first Friday of the month, starting at 7:00 pm Follow us on Facebook for the most up to date information.<\/p>\n

Open hours<\/strong>
\n<\/span>We are open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6 to 9 pm.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Some exceptions will occur to accommodate private events. Details will be shared on Facebook.<\/p>\n

Drop in for a game of billiards, play shuffleboard or darts. The bar and canteen will be available, and a game will likely be on the big screen TV.<\/p>\n
